Best-selling author speaks on relationships in New Media Age

An Outreach Ambassador has made her way to Grande Prairie to spread some knowledge on technology, love, sex and dating. Bev Hadland is from Crossroads/100 Huntley Street and travels across Canada to present.

She spoke on Tuesday about Technology Vs The Heart which highlights how relationships are affected in the age of technology.

“Try taking the phone away from a young person who is with a phone 24/7. You could cut off their arm and have the same reaction.”

She recalls seeing a family of three out for dinner with their attention on their cell phones. Hadland explains that the parents had their phones out first and the daughter followed suit.

“You need to have one meal a day sitting down with no technology. You don’t run to the phone, no messages, just nothing. You sit down at the supper table, eat and have a conversation.”

She is speaking again Friday evening for a City Wide Youth Rally for ages 12 to 18 years of age. The presentation is called Love, Sex and Dating. Hadland says it is all about engaging youth in conversation of where sex fits into their relationships. She explains that besides distraction, another downside to technology is how instant things become.

“We are one click away from pornography. Kids are using a cell phone as a teaching tool. Their idea of sex is rough and tough. It is really separated from a relationship aspect of emotions and the heart being engaged.”

The event Friday is held at the Christian Fellowship Assembly Church at 7:00 pm.
