City launching traffic information website

A new website aimed at getting traffic information out is set to launch in about two weeks. Enforcement Services Manager Chris Manuel says the traffic initiative Drive GP will work to connect people with things like enforcement information and road closures.

“In conjunction with that, we are hoping to incorporate social media channels. Facebook is a go-to in the area. We are also looking to hit a younger demographic as well. We are playing around with Snapchat a little bit and seeing how we can incorporate that into our portfolio.”

Manuel hopes to have the website up and running for the Home and Garden Show at the end of the month so that it can be showcased at the city’s table.

“There could be some benefits in the future with real time traffic updates. We aren’t there yet but I can see us getting there. This is once we equip our officers with training on how to make updates on-the-go.”

To get the word out about the new platform, they are also plans in the works to create billboards at spots around the city like roadside pull outs to let truck drivers know that it exists.

The website is set to launch during the Home & Garden Show at the Entrec Centre. The city is set to be showcasing the new website at their table at the show March 27th to 29th.
