Spirit River Rangers win fifth straight NPHL title

With a sweep of the Falher Pirates, the Spirit River Rangers won their fifth straight North Peace Hockey League title Saturday. J.M. St. Pierre was the overtime hero, scoring the winning goal of a 6-5 game.

The Rangers are fairly used to having their brooms out, as they have the record of six finals sweeps, and haven’t lost a game in four of the last five NPHL finals. Also impressive, they’ve won 13 series in a row, but they’ll need one more to match the record held by the now defunct Peace River Stampeders.

Spirit River beat Fort St. John in five games to reach the final, after taking out the Grande Prairie Athletics in the first round. They’ll now head to the provincial championships.
