Fairview-born hockey player part of NHL trade deadline move

A former Grande Prairie Storm player has been moved on NHL trade deadline day. Anaheim Ducks prospect Kenton Helgeson was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks, along with a seventh round pick in the 2019 draft. In exchange, the Ducks are getting centre Sam Carrick and left wing Spencer Abbott.

22 year old Helgesen was drafted in the seventh round in 2012, and has spent the last two seasons with ECHL’s Utah Grizzlies. He’s tallied three goals and 10 assists in 38 games this year.

The left wing was born in Fairview and played one season with the Storm as a defenceman before spending four with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League.
