Grande Prairie starts up Toys for Tickets campaign

The City is starting its own Toys for Tickets campaign for the holiday season. For the first time ever, people with parking tickets can pay them off with the donation of a new toy or gift. Provincial tickets for speeding, parking violations, and photo enforcement can’t qualify as they’re not handled through the city.

Anyone who gets a ticket between December 1st and 19th can take part, and donations from people without a fine will also be accepted. The toys and gifts much be new and unwrapped in their original wrapping, be worth at least as much as how much is owed on the parking ticket, and come with an original receipt.

In addition to toys for young children, people are asked to consider gifts for children of all ages, especially pre-teens and teens. They tend to like books, sports equipment, electronics, headphones, and gift certificates.

All donations can be dropped off at City on 99th downtown throughout December. Since it’s a new program, the city is waiting to see what the response is before choosing which organizations to forward the toys to.
