Names released from the standoff on Sturgeon Lake First Nation

The names of the two people involved in a standoff with police on the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation have been released.

Christopher Sheldon Hanson of Whispering Hills and Erin Leslie Moses of Valleyview has been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.

The incident happened last Thursday around 1 p.m. when Valleyview RCMP heard the man wanted on outstanding weapons charges was at a home on the First Nation.

When officers arrived, they found a stolen vehicle in the driveway with a firearm and ammunition inside. The wanted Hanson and Moses refused to come out of the home until 1 a.m. Friday morning. They were arrested by the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team from Edmonton and were taken to the detachment in Valleyview.

The two will appear in Valleyview Provincial Court via CCTV on September 1st, 2016.
