RCMP believe Cory Grey and Dylan Laboucan were connected to their killer or killers in some way. Autopsies Wednesday confirmed the teens were murdered and died of a gunshot wound. Inspector Gibson Glavin says their investigation so far had led them to believe they were deliberately killed by someone they were linked to.
“This is a small community where people are well known to each and people who enter the community from outside are also well recognized when they come in, so it is not a random act.”
17 year old Laboucan’s body was found in their community of Whitefish River First Nation Monday night, while his girlfriend, 19 year old Grey, was found in a different location in the rural High Prairie area late Tuesday afternoon.
They were first reported missing Saturday night after it was reported Laboucan was unconscious outside of his home. He disappeared before officers arrived and RCMP say the person who called it in has been very helpful. At this point, Inspector Glavin says RCMP aren’t releasing specific details about their deaths, like how many times they were shot.
“That type of information is known by a select few right now: the RCMP, the medical examiner, and whoever did this. That’s very, very helpful to our investigation; it narrows down and focuses who we can look at as possibly being involved in this.”
Police say no one is in custody and their focus now is determining who is responsible for the couple’s deaths. Glavin adds that the community was instrumental in starting a search right away and finding both bodies.
