UPDATE: Young children praised for finding gun used in shooting

UPDATE: RCMP says the gun used in the shooting was found by two young children. After 32 year old Matthew James Bergeson was arrested on the east side of the city, Police Dog Services and the local Search and Rescue Team were brought in.

However, a five and six year old found it in their backyard. They’re being commended for not touching it and instead telling a parent.

Bergeson is facing 15 charges stemming from the shooting and will be in court on Monday.

Fortunately no one was hurt when shots were fired at a business on the west side of Grande Prairie Wednesday afternoon. RCMP say there was a confrontation inside and a man involved left.

When he came back he was driving and reportedly fired a gun at people in the store. RCMP responded around 2:30 p.m. and chased the suspect for several blocks. He was arrested in the area of 91st Street and 89th Avenue and is currently in police custody.
