Annexed areas now part of public school boundaries

The boundaries of Grande Prairie Public School Division have been changed to include the newly annexed areas of the city. Education Minister David Eggen made the decision at the end of last month, based on information from both the public and Peace Wapiti School Division.

However, in order to accommodate the roughly 96 students already attending Harry Balfour and Peace Wapiti Academy, the province will be covering transportation costs to let them and their younger siblings stay put.

Public school board chair John Lehners says they’re happy to have the transition period, and are prepared to support the added growth. The division has three schools opening between now and 2017.
