Slow down and keep your eyes on the road this weekend: RCMP

RCMP are reminding motorists that patience goes a long way behind the wheel this long weekend. There has been 17 deaths due to motor vehicle collisions on roads and highways within RCMP jurisdictions in May in the province. This is an increase from last year at just 11 in the first two weeks of May and 2014 only had seven.

Police are expecting increased traffic volume this weekend and remind residents to buckle up as well as slow down. They add that driver frustration from slower traffic can make people feel the need to take risks like speeding or unsafe lane changes but officers would like drivers to mindful while on the roads.

Last year, there were four motor vehicle collision related deaths over the Victoria Day Weekend.
