Firefighter training at old Robert W. Zahara School

Over 80 firefighters from across northwestern Alberta will be participating in training exercises in the old school. Fire crews will practice their search and rescue skills, forcible entry and exit situations, and survival techniques will also be practiced throughout the weekend. The County of GP, County of Yellowhead, and City of Grande Prairie are leading the training sessions.

The use of the building gives them the opportunity to practice situations that are higher risk or don’t usually happen that often on the job. The Peace Wapiti School Division donated the use of the school that is set to be demolished this summer.

There were firefighters in attendance from as far as DeBolt, Yellowhead County, Teepee Creek, Grimshaw, Peace River, and LaGlace.
