Unique training for County Firefighters in old Sexsmith School

As the children in Sexsmith move into the new R.W. Zahara elementary school today, the old structure has been donated to the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire service. Over 80 firefighters from across northwestern Alberta will be participating in training exercises in the old school. Fire crews will practice their search and rescue skills, forcible entry and exit situations, and survival techniques will also be practiced.

The use of the building gives them the opportunity to practice situations that are higher risk or don’t usually happen that often on the job. The Peace Wapiti School Division donated the use of the school that was set to be demolished anyway.
