Guilty plea in Driftpile teen’s shooting death

A man accused of shooting his half-brother at a New Year’s Eve Party at the end of 2013 has plead guilty to lesser charges. 23 year old Blake Francis Giroux was set to face trial this week in Peace River for charges of second degree murder and aggravated assault.

14 year old Dallas Belcourt was reportedly trying to break up a fight at a home on Driftpile First Nations when Giroux’s gun went off. He was pronounced dead at the High Prairie Hospital, and another man suffered cuts to his head and hand.

Giroux was in court Monday and plead guilty to manslaughter, aggravated assault and obstruction of justice. His sentencing will be held on March 4th, 2016.
