Cars For Christmas back for a 16th year

With a little less than 3 months left until the holidays, the Cars for Christmas Mega Lottery is officially underway. The proceeds from this year’s lottery will go towards supporting 16 local not-for-profit organizations. Lottery Manager Jesse Urness says they would love to have a sell out year to help support those organizations.

“Obviously the more tickets we sell, the more money we can give to our non-profit groups and we have some really great groups that are putting the money towards some really great projects in the community. As close to a sell out as we can get is always our goal.”

Some of those organizations partnering with the Cars for Christmas Mega Lottery this year include Big Brothers Big Sisters, Grande Prairie and District Victims Services, Grande Prairie Gymnastics, and Camp Tamarack.

“They’re going to be using funds to subsidize camp fees for underprivileged kids who are not able to pay those fees on their own, so that they can still be involved in the camp. The QEII Hospital Auxiliary is going to be putting funds towards the purchase of equipment for our regional QEII hospital.”

This is the 16 year of the Cars for Christmas Lottery. Urness says between both the Cars for Christmas and Cash and Camping lotteries, more than $8 Million has been raised for the community.

The final date to purchase tickets this year is December 30. The draw will be done on January 5, 2016.
